TEHRAN, December 27 -The UK’s top animal charity RSPCA has said that it is searching for a trace of a man who shocked many around the world by abandoning his pet dog on the street in a cold night weeks before Christmas.

Search going on for heartless UK man who abandoned dogTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - The RSPCA said on Thursday that the abandonment of Snoop, the name chosen by vets to call the abandoned dog that was left at the corner of a street in Stoke-on-Trent, in central England, on 17 December, was going on.

A CCTV video released by the RCPCA on Wednesday shows a man leaving the street with his car after unclipping the dog's lead.

The animal charity said millions have watched the “heartbreaking” video and hundreds have offered to adopt the Staffordshire bull terrier.

"We have had hundreds of people wanting to rehome him although he isn't up for adoption while we investigate his abandonment,” said a spokeswoman of the charity, adding, “Millions of people across the world have viewed the heartbreaking footage of him being abandoned, which shows that even at Christmas we deal with heartbreaking incidents like this.”

Animal rights campaigners have condemned the act seen on the video, saying many other pet owners in the UK normally leave the animals on the streets before Christmas as they don’t want to pay for their costs during the holidays.

“This is heartbreaking, it's the way he runs after the owner — he clearly loved who was there,” said RSPCA inspector Natalie Perehovsky, adding, “I don't know what was going through their mind when they did that. It could be the expense, it could be family changes, there's hundreds of reasons.”

The RCPCA urged anyone with any information about the man who abandoned the dog to come forward.
