TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) -The U.S. Air Force has awarded a $997 million contract to Lockheed Martin to update 84 F-16 aircraft to the V-configuration.
The F-16Vs, which Lockheed says are the most advanced iterations of the F-16 fighter aircraft, will then be delivered to Greece in a foreign military sale, the U.S. Defense Department said Thursday.
Lockheed Martin will work on the contract in Fort Worth, Texas, and in Athens, Greece.
The Defense Department expects work will wrap up by June 2027. The department said $488 million in Foreign Military Sales funds would be obligated at the time of the award.
The F-16V boasts features that include the Active Electronically Scanned Array radar, Automatic Ground Collision Avoidance System, and a Sniper Advanced Targeting Pod.
The first F-16V flight occurred in 2015.
