TEHRAN, December 21 - Iranian rescue teams managed to tow a cargo ship named “NARGOL” into a pier off the northwestern city of Astara after it was reported in distress in the Caspian Sea, the governor of Astara said on Friday.

Iranian cargo ship transferred to Astara after reported in distressTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Younes Ranjkesh said the freighter was damaged in Astara Port around noon (local time) on Thursday and immediately, the rescue and relief teams were dispatched to the area.

After a special rescue operation, the teams managed to tow the cargo ship into the pier in Astara, the official added.

The ship, which belongs to the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL), was destined for Baku, Azerbaijan, Ranjkesh said, adding that it was carrying 2,000 tons of ceramic tile when it was damaged.

He further emphasized that currently, there is no threat to NARGOL and its crew and an operation to repair its damaged parts will be carried out soon by experts.
