TEHRAN, November 20 - Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif described Russia as a very good political and trade partner for Iran.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - In an interview with French daily Le Figaro, Zarif said Russia is a perfect political and trade partner for the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Russia understands Iran very well, as Moscow itself has been slapped with strict US sanctions, the top Iranian diplomat noted.
He said Washington is trying to mount pressure on Iran’s neighbors to implement the anti-Tehran sanctions, saying, however, that such attempts would get nowhere.
Zarif also touched on the close cooperation among Tehran, Moscow and Ankara for the settlement of the conflict in Syria, emphasizing the necessity for reconstruction of Syria, restoration of unity and independence to the Arab country, and removal of all remaining terrorists there.
The minister also stressed that Iran has been helping Syria in the war on terrorism at the request of the Damascus government, saying the entire world acknowledges Iran’s role in the fight against terrorism and extremism.
Iran and Russia’s cooperation in battling terrorism in Syria has helped the decline of Takfiri terrorism in the Arab country.
According to reports, the war in Syria has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
