TEHRAN, November 05 -A human chain has been formed in the British capital London to protest against Britain’s imminent withdrawal from the European Union.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) -Video reports on Monday showed people hand in hand from London’s Parliament Square to 10 Downing Street, the residence and office of the Prime Minister Theresa May.
The protesters wanted to show their dissatisfaction with Brexit, a move which took shape after a referendum in June 2016 in which Britons voted 52-48 to leave the EU after more than 40 years of membership.
The demonstration ended with protesters submitting a letter to the government in which they demanded protection for the citizenship rights after Brexit regardless of what would come out of ongoing talks with the EU.
Britain and the EU are in final phases of a series of breathtaking negotiations aimed at clinching a deal that could outline the future relationship between the two sides.
A main obstacle to reaching one such agreement is the future situation of the only land border on the island of Ireland. Government sources in London have indicated that disagreements on the Irish border could be resolved in the coming weeks so that the EU would call an emergency summit of its leaders to discuss the final Brexit deal.
