TEHRAN, October 30 - Iran’s Foreign Ministry congratulated Brazil's president-elect Jair Bolsonaro on winning the election, hoping for closer political and economic ties between the two countries during his term.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - In a statement on Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi congratulated the Brazilian government and nation on holding the presidential election successfully.
Wishing good luck for president-elect Jair Bolsonaro, Qassemi expressed the hope that political and economic relations between the two countries would grow under the new Brazilian government.
“Iran and Brazil have a history of 118 years of bilateral ties, which have always followed a growing, firm and stable trend,” he added.
Supporters of Bolsonaro took the streets of Rio de Janeiro on Sunday after the far-right congressman was declared the winner of the country's presidential election by a wide margin.
Official results gave Bolsonaro a 55.2 percent share of the vote in Sunday's runoff, comfortably ahead of Fernando Haddad, the candidate of the center-left Workers' Party (PT), who had 44.8 percent.
