Tehran, YJC. Substance and Energy Research Center has made a solar ice maker.
Dr.
Ali Asqar Tofiq, Manager of the Substance and Energy Research Center says his
organization has made an ice maker which uses the solar energy for Iran’s hot
climates.
"Using
the thermodynamic cycle, the device uses the solar energy to produce cold,”
Tofiq said.
Asserting
that there is no moving part in the device, he said "That is why its
maintenance is much easier than other solar refrigerators.”
"The
design is based on the surface absorption. The device uses activated carbon as
the absorbent and methanol as the mobile agent,” he further said.
Tofiq
stated "The elimination of solar cells and use of activated carbon instead is
the most prominent characteristic of this ice maker. As photovoltaic cells are
not used in the device, it costs less than the existing devices which use the
cells.”
