Tehran, YJC. Iran’s Foreign Ministry has criticized the EU parliamentary delegation for having held a meeting with 2009 election critics.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran
has condemned the EU parliamentary delegation for having visited opposition
figures as the European body had made a trip to Tehran to meet state officials.
The Director of the European Organizations Office of the Foreign
Ministry on Monday evening summoned the Greek Charge d’Affaires to express Iran’s
discontent with the European delegation’s act.
The European parliamentary delegation which, headed by Tarja
Cronberg, had visited Tehran for the first time in six years held a "secret
meeting”, as Iranian officials would say later, with two 2009 presidential
election critics Nasrin Sotoudeh and Jafar Panahi in the embassy of Greece.
Iran had given the European body premonitions via Iran’s
embassy in Brussels to avoid such an action as it would go against
trust-building policies.
