TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - Reports in local media said Sunday that a cyclist had shot dead a man in the northern English city of Liverpool earlier in the day.
Merseyside police launched an investigation into the death of the 27-year-old man who died of injuries in hospital.
Authorities said the perpetrator of the crime was believed to have been riding a pedal bike when he shot the victim in head and torso in the broad daylight before fleeing the scene.
Police was appealing for information for the suspect, believed to be in his late 20s and dressed in black.
“The investigation into this shocking incident is in its very early stages, and we are keen to speak to anyone who may have information which could help us establish the full circumstances and find those responsible,” police superintendent Natalie Perischine said.
The death of the man came as police in the capital London said four of its officers had been injured in an stabbing attack in the city late on Saturday.
The metropolitan police said two male officers were stabbed and two others, one female and one male, sustained injury to the head wrist in the attack in north London. One officer was still in hospital on Sunday to receive treatment, the police said, adding that the suspect, a 19-year-old man arrested after the incident was also in hospital.
Britain has seen a significant increase in the number of stabbing, acid and shooting attacks targeting citizens over the past several years. Many blame the government’s economic and security policies for the surge in violence.
