Ukraine will continue the course towards European integration, the country's President Viktor Yanukovich said on Sunday at a meeting with influential U.S. Republican Senator John McCain and Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), Chairman of the Foreign Relations Subcommittee on European Affairs.
The press service of the Ukrainian president reported on Monday that the sides "discussed a wide range of issues of Ukraine's foreign policy." It said that "the president once again stressed that Ukraine was firm on its European integration course and loyalty to the country's national interests."
Yanukovich also pledged that the country's authorities would do everything in its power to secure the citizens' right to peaceful rallies and also to conduct a thorough investigation into the November 30 events in Independence Square in Kiev when force was used to disperse the supporters of European integration.
