Real Madrid to face AS Roma in Day 2 of Champions League

TEHRAN, September 19 -The defending European champions, Real Madrid, have been preparing for their new UEFA Champions League campaign, against AS Roma, at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid to face AS Roma in Day 2 of Champions LeagueTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) -Los Blaoncos will start the tournament without their former manager, Zinedine Zidane, who won the Champions League in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

They will also miss their superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored 120 goals for the Spanish club in the tournament.

However, Real’s new manager, Julen Lopetegui, says they are ready to start their bid for a 4th consecutive Champions League trophy, and will perform to the highest level to win. 

Manchester City have also held a training session prior to their Champions League group F opener against French side, Lyon, at the Etihad Stadium.

The Sky Blues, are currently 3rd in the English Premier League, with 13 points from a possible 15, and are coming off a 3-nil victory at home to Fulham.

They dominated the Champions League group stage last season, with 5 wins from 6. The Citizens manager, Pep Guardiola, will miss the opener against Lyon, as he will be serving a touchline-ban, as a result of his sending-off in last season's quarterfinal encounter against Liverpool. Meanwhile, Sergio Aguero and Benjamin Mendy are sidelined due to injuries.

Day 2 of the UEFA Champions League will kick-off tonight with the following matches.

In group E, former European champions, Ajax, will take on AEK Athens of Greece, while Portugal’s Benfica will host Bayern Munich. 

In group F, Ukraine’s Shakhtar Donetsk will welcome Hoffenheim of Germany, and Manchester City will line up against French side, Lyon, at the Etihad Stadium. 

Meanwhile, in group G, the defending European champions, Real Madrid, will lock horns with AS Roma, and Viktoria Plzen of the Czech Republic will host CSKA Moscow. 

Finally, in group H, Valencia will entertain Italian Serie A title holders, Juventus, and Swiss side, Young Boy, will welcome Manchester United.
