UK teenager seriously hurt in acid attack in BristolTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) -Local media reported on Sunday that the attack on the 16-year-old boy took place late on Saturday in Cribbs Causeway in the city of Bristol.

The boy was having a dispute with another male when he was sprayed in the face with an unknown substance, police said.

“This is a very concerning incident in which a bottle containing an unknown substance, possibly a type of corrosive, has been sprayed into the face of a teenage boy,” said Richard Marsh of the Avon and Somerset Police.

"The victim is being looked after in hospital by medical experts but has some serious injuries which may be permanent," he added.

The number of acid attacks have been on the rise in Britain, especially among the youth, with populated cities like London becoming a hotspot for incidents involving corrosive substances.

The number of reported assaults involving acid across the UK has nearly trebled over the past years, going from 248 cases in 2012 all the way up to 720 in 2016.

Last year, 431 attacks were reported in the British capital, up from the 261 cases reported a year earlier. Official figures put the number of acid attacks at around 1,500 since 2011.

The increase in the number of acid attacks in the UK has come amid a surge in violent crimes over the past few years.

Official estimates suggest knife crime offenses rose by 16 percent in Britain in the year leading to March while the number of robberies recorded in that period also soared by as much as 30 percent.
