TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) -At least three people have been killed and 243 others wounded after an earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale hit western Iran.
The temblor hit near Taze Abad, the capital of Salas-e Babajani County in Kermanshah Province, at 2:43 a.m. local time on Sunday (22:13 GMT on Saturday) at a depth of eight kilometers.
The quake was also felt in nearby provinces as well as in Iraq. Electricity was cut to several villages in the region, but officials said it will be restored later Sunday.
The quake increased water turbidity in some areas and now tankers are providing people with drinking water.
Iran's President Hassan Rouhani held a phone conversation with Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli and ordered emergency medical aid to the people affected by the earthquake.
In another phone call with Kermanshah Governor Houshang Bazvand, Rouhani urged all bodies and institutions to join hands and help the injured.
