TEHRAN, August 24 - The British government's handling of Brexit has been "nothing short of a fiasco,” says an analyst, predicting that any possible agreement with the European Union would be subjected to “immense criticism”.

UK government's handling of Brexit 'nothing short of a fiasco': AnalystTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) -“That is not surprising given that Theresa May is not a strong prime minister; she is a weak prime minister, her cabinet is divided, there is very little discipline in her cabinet, indeed there is very little disciple amongst her own party and I’m specifically talking about her MPs,” Marcus Papadopoulos, publisher and editor of Politics First told Press TV in an interview on Friday.

However, he added, even the Labour government, with Jeremy Corbyn as prime minister, would still be “struggling immensely” to come to some sort of a settlement with the EU.

“In my opinion the spotlight really needs to be put on [former British Prime Minister] David Cameron, because it was David Cameron who agreed to a referendum on Britain’s membership of the European Union. [He] put his premiership and his party before country and he did not plan for all eventualities of a referendum … So in my opinion it is David Cameron who really should shoulder the blame for this fiasco which Britain is experiencing at the moment,” he said.

Over the past two years, there has been little progress in talks between London and Brussels. Many lawmakers fear Britain will depart the EU in March next year with a bad deal or no agreement at all.
