Tehran, YJC. Vaezi has said that his office has offered a new way to control social websites based on content rather than domain.
Iran’s
Minister of Information and Communications Technology said that the ministry
has offered a proposal to change the way Facebook is censored in Iran.
Mahmoud
Vaezi said "In case the technological prerequisites exist we propose to change
the way Facebook and other social websites are censored. This would be a way in
which people themselves would be able to become the police of the internet and
use it properly.”
Vaezi
stated that the useful pages of Facebook must be open to all, adding that the
censorship must be content-based so that people will be able to use "the useful
content.”
"Right
now there doesn’t exist the possibility to filter proper and improper pages
based on the content, but a team is doing the technical work to make it
possible,” he added.
