Tehran, YJC. FIFA President says Qatar will be the sole host to 2022 World Cup matches.
Sepp
Blatter has said that the 2022 World Cup matches will be held in Qatar alone, stating
that the FIFA refuses to give heed to requests from countries such as Iran which
have said they are willing to join Qatar in hosting the games.
Previously,
Iran’s football officials had said that the country is willing to host part of
the games.
After
his visit to Iran, the President of FIFA Sepp Blatter headed to the UAE and
Qatar.
In a
news conference in Qatar, he provided comments on his visit to the country and
preliminary tasks for the 2022 World Cup matches.
"There
is no doubt that the World Cup in 2022 will be organized in Qatar and this
decision is not reversible," Blatter told a news conference in Doha after
meeting the emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, on Saturday,
Al-Jazeera reports.
Blatter
also ruled out any possibility that Qatar could co-host the tournament with neighboring
countries.
"The
decision of the FIFA is to play in one country and that will be in Qatar,"
he asserted.
