Tehran, YJC. New GECF Secretary General Iran intends to turn the forum into a leading entity in the world.
Speaking at a news conference, the new Gas Exporting Countries Forum Secretary General Mohammad Hossein Adeli said "The most important mission for the Islamic Republic of Iran is to enhance the functionality of the GECF secretariat.”
He believed that the forum member countries are in special circumstances, adding "We hope that as the new Secretary General, Iran will be able to prepare the forum for global challenges and turn it into a leading energy entity in the whole world.”
In answer to a question concerning the chances for the GECF to raise to the status of the gas OPEC, Adeli said "That will depend on the members of the GECF. […] The forum’s secretariat enacts the opinions of the member countries. Therefore we plan to boost the functionality of the GECF secretariat through new mechanisms in order to realize the intentions of the member countries.”
