Tehran, YJC. Badamchian approves of Rouhani's diplomatic efforts in New York, except for what the Leader regarded as mistakes.
Asadollah
Badamchian, Vice Chancellor of the Islamic Coalition Party providing comments
on the hypothetic polls on relations with the US said "I am not in favor of
polls, in the sense that people have voted for the government in order for it
to go do its job. There is no need for polls. No one will stop the president. Naturally
there are pros and cons.”
He pointed
to Rouhani's trip to New York and said "In his trip to New York, Mr. Rouhani did
well, except for a number of occasions which the Leader mentioned. Both because
he was praiseworthy at his speech and because he did not go to that party. Some
also believe that Obama’s call indicate Obama’s weakness, not ours. These folks
were looking forward before hand for Rouhani to meet Obama so that they would
account it as indicating Iran’s weakness.”
Badamchian
then pointed to Iran’s economic distress and said "I do not believe at all that
Iran’s economy is bound to US sanctions. The problem to Iran’s economy has to
do with the policies of recent years. Is the Iranian nation which lived through
8 years of imposed war likely to give way to a couple of sanctions? Yes, it
will be injured, but it will not be knocked down.”
He further
asserted "The US stands behind Taliban and al-Qaeda. It is not separate from Israel
either. It will be mischievous to say the US is not one with Israel.”
