TEHRAN, July 02 - Human Rights in US policy is defined as a slogan and acts as a political weapon to put pressure on other nations, Iran's FM Spokesman says.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - In an interview with YJC news agency, Bahram Ghassemi said that a look at US policies toward other countries shows its blameworthy double standards and violations of Human Rights.
Ghassemi then pointed out to a recent mistreatment of US toward immigrants that is family separation, a kind of behavior seen before among ignorant sectarian groups who separated children from their parents.
"Though Donald Trump was forced to some extent moderate his behavior under pressure from the general public, he eventually transferred children to prisons, an act which is deemed as an unforgivable oppression" the Spokesman added.
More than 2,000 separated children are currently in the US government's custody, according to the Department of Homeland Security, which claims that it is aware of their locations and is making an effort to reunite them with their families.
"Zero tolerance", a Trump administration's policy towards illegal immigration has led to family separations at the US border with Mexico.
The Republican president has vowed to crack down on immigration but has failed to get his complete agenda through so far.
Facing overwhelming bipartisan backlash, the US president signed an executive order last Wednesday to halt the separations.
Ghassemi also blamed UN Human Rights Committee, noting that part of dysfunction within the organization originates from the double standards it takes towards the behavior of such countries as US.
This behavior indicates that US does not want to harmonize with international treaties through practicing hostility to internationlism and shirking responsibility, such that the approach has turned into the foundation of White House behavior, Ghassemi asserted.
To mention some of US hostile and unilateral actions, the Iranian Spokesman referred to Trump's withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement, JCPOA, and NAFTA.
US former presidents also had put exiting from UNESCO and cutting its budget in their agenda, Ghassemi remarked, yet these policies of US are not accepted by international community.
