TEHRAN, June 27 - The United Nations should play a more important role in helping the illogical war in Yemen to come to a halt and in preparing the grounds for Yemeni-Yemeni peace.

TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - 'The futile war has been in progress for three years. Yemen crisis is of priority,' said Head of Iran's Strategic Council on Foreign Relations Kamal Kharrazi in second geopolitical meeting on France-Iran relations at Tarbiat Modarres University, Tehran.

'The solution of the problems of the Middle East is negotiations between the four powers of the region: Iran, Turkey, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia. Eventually, these countries need to gather together and negotiate to solve the problems in the region and stop the spread of terrorism.'

Hoping to see a change in strategies of western countries, including France, Kharrazi said, 'Iran is ready to try its best to restore peace and security to the region.'

He also said that it is necessary that the ones that created problems in the region not be militarily supported; the West is sending weapons to Saudi Arabia and Emirates, and the very same arms are being used in Yemen War.

Regarding Iran's ties with France, the former foreign minister of Iran said that historically speaking Iran has had leverage in the region, which has become stronger recently, and France has a record in some regional countries, including Syria and Lebanon.

He added Iran and France should use their commonalities to help the region restore peace and security.

Kharrazi said that some say the situation in the region is different than the past; a part of the change roots in the mistakes of the countries in the region. Saudi Arabia, Emirates and some other countries thought they could take Syria's fate in hand, so billions of dollars of weapons and cash was sent to the region and the terrorists acted most wildly against the people.

'The effects of the mistake reached even France, and we saw how terrorists can jeopardize European security.'

He also said that there was a coalition against Daesh, but was ineffective because the countries that had created it were a part of the coalition. 'How can Saudi Arabia, as the major supporter of the Takfiris, be a member of a collation that wants to fight them?'

Without Iran's presence in Iraq and Syria at the invitation of the countries, we would be facing a Daesh today that had land under control and could be the source of disorder and insecurity in the region and Europe, which a neighbor of western Asia.

'Today Daesh has been defeated, but it doesn’t mean it has been annihilated; they are now re-emerging in Afghanistan and northern Africa, thus countries that are worried about terrorism need to cooperate more seriously.'

'It is really unfortunate that Iran that has invested so much for Daesh's defeat and played an important role in that is being introduced as the source of instability in the region, said Kharrazi.

He quoted a Maronite bishop in Lebanon saying that despite historical record in Syria and Lebanon, France had marooned them in that situation. If not for Hezbollah, Daesh would have beheaded all the Christians.

Kharrazi said that France and Iran can cooperate to stop the war in Yemen. 'What is happening in Yemen now is massacre of innocent people.'

He added that Saudi Arabia is supported by the West, especially the US, so they feel free to commit whatever crime they want.

The meeting was held with the aim of expanding mutual scientific, political, cultural, social and economic relations, and regional peace and stability.
