TEHRAN, June 25 - Saudi Arabia has managed to beat Egypt in the 2018 World Cup as the two Arab teams become the first to leave the games in Russia.

Saudis beat Egypt in farewell World Cup gameTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) -Saudis notched their first world Cup victory in 24 years on Monday as they pulled off a last-gasp 2-1 win over Egypt in Volgograd, Russia.

Liverpool talisman, Mohamed Salah, one of the best footballers in the world, scored a solo in the 22nd minute and wasted another deep into first-half stoppage time. Saudis went on to build on Salah’s missed opportunity to claw back into the game when they scored from the penalty spot with Salman Al-Faraj.

In the second half, the game appeared to be heading into a draw between the eliminated teams of Group A who saw multiple balls into the back of their nets in matches against other teams of the group Russia and Uruguay. However, Saudis again scored in the added time with Salem Al-Dawsari to deny Egypt a third place in the group.

However, the game between two of the weakest teams of the World Cup had something to offer to the prestigious tournament. By finishing the first half, Egyptian keeper Essam El-Hadary, 45, became the oldest player ever to appear at a World Cup. Hadary made the historic appearance even more memorable when he saved a second penalty by Saudi Arabia’s Fahad Al-Muwallad.

The match in Volgograd marked the beginning of the third round of the World Cup group stage. The final will be played in Moscow on July 15.
