Unexpected deployment of US forces in Iraq, Syria border

TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - Speaking to al-Ma'loumah news agency, the security source said the US forces came to the border area near al-Anbar unexpectedly and for unknown reasons.

Their deployment in the region has been accompanied by numerous flight of US fighter helicopters, he added.

The source said that the Iraqi army and operation staff in al-Anbar are not able to control US forces insubordinate movements.

Iraqi official forces have not yet said anything about the issue.

Over the past week, Iraq-Syria border area has witnessed a series of US operation including its airstrike to a base of Iraq's resistance Popular Military Unit (PMU) also known as Hashd al-Sha'bi in al-Bukamal.

The raid led to the martyrdom of 22 fighters and the injuries of 12 others.

Hashd al-Sha’abi is an Iraqi state-sponsored umbrella organization composed of some 40 groups, which are mainly Shia Muslims. The force reportedly numbers more than 100,000 fighters. Iraqi authorities say there are between 25,000 and 30,000 Sunni tribal fighters within its ranks in addition to Kurdish Izadi and Christian units.

The fighters have played a major role in the liberation of Daesh-held areas to the south, northeast and north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, ever since the Takfiri terrorist group launched an offensive in the country in June 2014.
