Iran urges Turkey’s cooperation in extradition of fugitive criminals

TEHRAN, June 17 - An Iranian deputy minister asked for Turkey’s cooperation in arresting and extraditing fugitive criminals to the Islamic Republic.

Iran urges Turkey’s cooperation in extradition of fugitive criminalsTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - In a telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart on Sunday, Iranian Deputy Interior Minister Hossein Zolfaqari called for Turkey’s cooperation in capturing and extraditing criminals, including frauds who have fled to Turkey.

Zolfaqari and the Turkish undersecretary of Ministry of Interior, Muhterem Ince, also hailed the growing ties between Tehran and Ankara, stressing the need for continued partnership in countering terrorism and organized crimes in the region, and in controlling the common border, particularly in special cases for preventing terrorist attacks.

In a meeting with his Turkish counterpart in December 2017, held on the sidelines of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit in Istanbul, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called for long-term cooperation with neighboring Turkey in the fight against terrorism.

In the same month, high-ranking officials from Iran and Turkey signed a roadmap for the development of cooperation in various security fields, including efforts to boost border control and counter money laundering.

The roadmap was signed at the end of the second session of the joint working group of interior ministry officials of Iran and Turkey.

In the three-day session, the two sides had focused on various areas of cooperation, including efforts to combat drug smuggling, human trafficking, organized crimes, illegal border crossing, terrorism and money laundering.
