Tehran, YJC. Larijani has severely criticized Imam Khomeini’s grand-daughter for her recently stated memories of her grandfather.
Speaking before the open session of the Majlis on Sunday,
the Speaker Ali Larijani severely criticized Imam Khomeini’s grand-daughter Zahra
Eshraqi.
Eshraqi had recently published memories of her days with her
grandfather on Facebook, presenting a jovial atmosphere at the revolution
founder’s home.
A feminist and human rights activist, she had given accounts
of the family’s inclination toward cultural diversity.
Asharq al-Awsat quotes her in an exclusive interview "I
want to start a ‘color revolution’”, something
she also mentioned on Facebook, speaking
about her new approach to the issue of women’s clothing.
The Majlis speaker
pointing to her statements said "Today what we do not need in regard to hijab [Islamic
codes of clothing for women] is a revolution of colors. What is important is to
be clothed and virtuous.”
"Religious laxness
is not something to be propagated, especially by the righteous families of the
revolution,” he exclaimed.
Larijani also addressed
Imam Khomeini’s letter to the US as quoted by the late Imam’s relatives and said
"What use is there in mentioning Imam Khomeini’s letter to the US? Does not
such a statement imply a sort of desire hidden inside our politicians for
relations with the US?”
Meanwhile, lawmaker
Nasrollah Perjmanfar says that the Cultural Committee of the Majlis is going to
address Eshraqi’s statements.
It is said that following the events, Eshraqi's Facebook account has been removed or deactivated.
