TEHRAN, June 09 - Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said developing Iran’s Chabahar Port is a big step towards boosting regional transit routes.

Iran, Afghanistan presidents discuss boosting bilateral tiesTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - “Stable and secure Afghanistan is necessary for developing the region,” he said in a meeting with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani in China, he said.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to establish peace and battle terrorism in Afghanistan and withhold no effort.”

“Iran is resolute to expand ties with neighbors, especially with Afghanistan as well as joint investment in developmental projects, including transit infrastructure.”

“The mega project of Chabahar Port underway by Iran, Afghanistan and India is a big step to boost regional transit routes.”

Ashraf Ghani, for his part, said developing Chabahar Port is important not only to Iran, Afghanistan and India but also for developing China’s ties with central Asia.

He expressed hope that security and progress would be made in Afghanistan through backing of Iran as a big neighbor and important regional partner of Afghanistan.
