TEHRAN, June 03 - Iranian President Hassan Rouhani praised unity of the country’s religious and ethnic groups, saying his administration is resolved to protect the rights of minorities, including religious and ethnic minorities.

Rouhani lauds religious solidarity in IranTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - In a meeting with a group of Iranian Sunni clerics in Tehran on Saturday, Rouhani highlighted the common values shared by Shiite and Sunni Muslims, saying the two denominations have very minor differences.

Hailing the growing proximity of ethnic and religious groups since the victory of the Islamic Revolution, the president said he feels that the youth, the women and religious and ethnic minorities have not still received what they deserve, stressing his administration’s resolve to protect their rights.

Today, Iran is facing special conditions that require stronger solidarity and unity, he said, citing the mounting foreign pressure against the Iranian nation.

His comments came after US President Donald Trump on May 8 pulled his country out of the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

The US has also unveiled plans to impose “unprecedented” sanctions against Iran.

Iran has reaffirmed its commitment to the nuclear deal and has launched talks with the remaining parties to save the accord.
