TEHRAN, May 19 - Police in southwestern Germany have reported a shooting attack which has left two people dead.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - Police said Saturday it was treating the incident, which took place near the city of Saarbruecken, as a domestic one.
However, local media said several people were also injured in the shooting in Fechingen area, located southeast of Saarbruecken.
Police said it had a suspect in custody, but it would not elaborate on further details.
Other reports said a man had carried out the shooting over a family dispute and that the two slain were members of his family. They said the man also shot himself at the scene.
The shooting comes as Germany is faced with a potential threat of terrorist attacks.
At least four people were killed and 20 more injured after a car plowed into a large crowd in western Germany on April 7. Local media said at the time that a man who had psychological disorders had carried out the attack in Munster. It was highly reminiscent of an attack in December 2016 in Berlin, where Anis Amri, a failed Tunisian asylum seeker, plowed a truck he had stolen into a crowd of Christmas shoppers and killed 11 people.
Authorities have also reported numerous cases of foiled terrorist plots over the past months. Police in Berlin said two weeks ago that it had detained four men linked to Amri as they were trying to stage knife attacks during a major sporting event in the city.
Despite the increased security threats, Germany has been mostly spared of attacks that have rocked countries like France and Belgium over the past years. Most of those attacks have been carried out by European recruits of Daesh, a Takfiri terrorist group which has almost been obliterated in its former bastions of Iraq and Syria.
