Tehran, YJC. Lawmaker says that Germany must take care whether it is sacrificing its relations with Iran to hosting the People’s Mujahidin of Iran.
In interview with ICANA, Nozar Shafiei pointed to Ban
KI-Moon’s statement that the remaining members of the MEK must quit Iraq as
soon as possible, adding "In the past periods only governments were responsible
to the UN, but now groups and individuals also can be addressed by the UN.”
The lawmaker also pointed out "The reason for such change of
policy is that the sources of threat have changed and it is no more only
countries that can be threats to each other or to world peace.”
Shafiei added "If the UN or the Secretary General have made
such a statement it means that the UN considers the group a threat to peace
according to its history.”
Member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee
of the Majlis pointed to the chances that Germany might give refuge to 70 to 77
members of the group and said "Western countries might think that they should
give refuge to these people. The Islamic Republic of Iran can express its
complaints about such an act. If that turns into action it will become a weak
point in Germany’s relation to us.”
