TEHRAN, May 11 - Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel discussed the Iran nuclear deal after Washington announced its withdrawal from it, the Kremlin said on Friday, Reuters reported.

Russia's Putin, Germany's Merkel discuss Iran nuclear deal: KremlinTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) – U.S. President Donald Trump claimed on Tuesday that the 2015 deal, which lifted sanctions on Iran in return for measures restricting its nuclear program, did not go far enough in removing the threat posed by Iran to the United States and its allies in the Middle East.

France and Germany urged European nations to push back against US sanctions targeting their companies doing business with Iran after President Donald Trump's withdrawal from a 2015 nuclear agreement.

France's Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire on Friday criticized what he described as the extraterritoriality of Washington’s punitive measures against one of EU’s key trade partners.

"We feel that the extraterritoriality of their sanction measures is unacceptable," Le Maire told Le Parisien newspaper, vowing that European countries would "do everything to protect the interests of their companies".

"The Europeans should not have to pay for the withdrawal of an agreement by the United States, to which they had themselves contributed," he added.
