Rouhani: Any meeting would have been premature

Tehran, YJC. Hassan Rouhani was welcomed to Iran around 11:00 on Saturday, local time.
Returning from New York, Hassan Rouhani landed in Mehrabad airport around 11:00 today.

Rouhani was welcomed at the airport by the Supreme Leader’s representative, Aliakbar Velayati.

He said "The main goal was to raise important issues like the nuclear, Syria and Palestine and a plan to fight against terrorism and violence.”

The president maintained "The six majors meeting was the right move.”

Rouhani also provided comments on his phone conversation with Obama, saying "There was not enough time to have a favorable meeting which was why I didn't accept it.”

He stated that since there has been 60 years of hostility between Iran and US. Any meeting would have been premature.

"Not enough preparations were made to meet Obama,” he added.

Rouhani also said "The White House called as I was about to leave and we talked for some minutes.”

The president provided comments on his phone conversation with the American counterpart as "I told Mr. Obama that nuclear energy is Iranians' national right and he said that the US recognized the right. We both agreed to speed up finding a nuclear solution.”

"We have to have flexibility but it should be heroic and our national dignity should be respected,” Rouhani asserted.

Rouhani said that everyone he met was amazed at Iran's election results.

He added "I realized in this trip that there is a ground to have problems resolved. There is hope.”
