Tehran, YJC. Lawmaker says that for Iran to take over the nuclear power plant of Bushehr does not mean that Russia’s commitment on the power plant is over.
The
spokesman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Majlis in
interview with the Islamic Consultative News Agency providing comments on the
delivery of the Bushehr power plant by Russia to Iran said "The temporary
handover of the Bushehr power plant is not equal with the end of Russia’s
commitment to Iran. With regard to the knowledge and expertise that Iranian experts
have acquired, it is time that the Bushehr power plant is given over to them.”
Adding
that he has personally visited the power plant, Hossein Naqavi Hosseini said "On
a visit I had of the Bushehr power plant control room, I was closely acquainted
with the working cycle of the power plant. The Bushehr power plant is a huge
atomic plant that turns nuclear energy into electricity. So far Russian experts
presided the Bushehr power plant and were completing and managing the power plant’s
control room, along which they also instructed the Iranian technicians. As the
technological educational terms are over, it is time that the management of the
power plant is given over to Iranian scientists.”
He pointed
out that the reason for calling the delivery a contemporary one is that it is
agreed that in case a problem occurs, Russian technicians are to treat it along
with Iranian counterparts.
After
the contemporary term, the power plant will be permanently taken over by Iran.
Hosseini
also said that so far Russia has accomplished its obligations to Iran on the
power plant, adding "In the agreements made for constructing the Bushehr power
plant, the reference to consider these agreements in case a disagreement arises
has been assigned, but Russia does not seem to have any denial or reluctance in
carrying out its responsibilities.”
The
handover ceremony is being held on Monday (today) with a number of Iranian and Russian
officials.
