TEHRAN, April 23 - Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif called on European leaders to encourage US President Donald Trump to stay in Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal with 5+1 countries.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - European leaders not only should encourage Trump to stay in the nuclear deal but also should encourage him to start implementing a part of agreement related to him with goodwill, he wrote in his official twitter account.
He also lauded recent remarks of French President Emmanuel Macron that there is no Plan B for Iran’s nuclear deal.
Under the deal, which entered into force in January 2016 when former US President Barack Obama was still in office, Iran agreed to limit parts of its peaceful nuclear program in exchange for removal of all nuclear-related sanctions.
Trump has been a vocal critic of the Iran nuclear deal which was signed between Tehran and six world powers -- the US, France, Britain, Russia, China and Germany.
Zarif is in New York and plans to deliver speech in US Council on Foreign Relations.
