TEHRAN, April 22 - Heavy gunfire last night was reported in Saudi Arabia outside the royal palace in Riyadh.

TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - The news firstly went viral in twitter, yet today Ryiadh Police confirmed the news.

Police claimed the cause of the shootings and explosions wasa helishot seen near the palace.

Riyadh Police spokesman said that on Saturday evening, forces from a security center at Riyadh's al-Khazami neighborhood, where in al-Khuzama Palace is located, spotted a heli shot flying above the palace and then shot it.

Despite the Police confirmation of the news, the Saudi state media still censor the incident.

Also some sources claim that the shootings are part of a coup led by Saudi royals who are opposed to king Salman.

Saudi Arabia's King Salman has reportedly been evacuated from the compound to a bunker at an air force base in Riyadh.

Security around Saudi royal palaces has been bolstered over the past few months as Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman oversees Riyadh’s economic overhaul, dubbed Vision 2030.

According to the Saudi Interior Ministry, last October an attacker killed two Saudi guards and injured three others at the gate of the royal palace in the Red Sea city of Jeddah.
