TEHRAN, April 20 - The Iranian Armed Forces General Staff hailed the effective role of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) in boosting the country’s deterrent power and its contributions to the fight against terrorism and enhancement of security in the region.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - The IRGC has always managed to foil different plots hatched by the enemies of the Islamic Revolution, Armed Forces General Staff said in a statement released on Thursday, ahead of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Day.
It added that the IRGC has played a “constructive and effective” role in boosting the country’s deterrent power, fighting against global terrorism and ensuring security in the region.
The statement also praised the IRGC for supporting the front of Islamic resistance and the oppressed.
Friday will mark the birth anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS), the third Shiite Imam, which has been named the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Day.
The IRGC was established after the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran to defend the country against foreign threats and to safeguard the values and accomplishments of the revolution.
According to Article 150 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran, “The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, organized in the early days of the triumph of the Revolution (1979), is to be maintained so that it may continue in its role of guarding the Revolution and its achievements. The scope of the duties of this Corps, and its areas of responsibility, in relation to the duties and areas of responsibility of the other Armed Forces, are to be determined by law with emphasis on brotherly cooperation and harmony among them.”
