TEHRAN, April 11 - Secretary of Iran’s 36th edition of Fajr International Film Festival (FIFF) Reza Mirkarimi says 120 movies have been selected from 54 countries to be screened at the upcoming event this month.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - Speaking at a press conference in Tehran on Wednesday, Mirkarmi said that during the 2018 Fajr festival 300 guests will participate from 8 countries. This year’s event, which also marks the 120th anniversary of the advent of cinema in Iran, is scheduled to be held in Tehran from April 19 to 27.
In an attempt to promote the scientific level of the festival, several prominent movie experts have also been invited to the 2018 FIFF to hold different workshops for the participants, Mirkarmi noted.
The FIFF secretary said that the festival tends to include all countries in the event, but noted that participation of the countries with more cultural commonalities with Iran is the main priority.
Mirkarimi underlined the need for expansion of connections among Iranian filmmakers and artists from other countries and said that the FIFF can serve as a world-class platform to achieve that purpose.
This year, the FIFF will particularly focus on the Italian cinema, as the country has widely influenced the movie industry in Iran and other parts of the world, he added.
The portal of the Iranian cinema data base will also be unveiled during the 2018 FIFF.
The website includes information about 4,700 Iranian movies and it will gradually be updated, Mirkarimi pointed out.
‘Intifada’ Photo Exhibit
A photography exhibition by famous Iranian photographer Alfred Yaghobzadeh, titled Intifada Uprising, will also be held in the 36th edition of Fajr International Film Festival.
Yaghobzadeh, who currently lives in France, is globally renowned for his war photography.
According to FIFF organizers, the exhibition will run on the sidelines of this year’s Broken Olive Branches category with the aim of highlighting the culture of Palestinian resistance against Israeli occupation and terror.
The exhibition will display works selected from a collection of tens of thousands photographs and it will include four separate categories, starting from the first Palestinian Intifada to the Israeli construction of Apartheid Wall.
