Tehran, YJC. IRGC commander has said that the IRGC has a duty to take action if Syria is attacked.
Mehr News Agency reports that the IRGC commander Major
General Mohammadali Jafari in the sidelines of the 20th annual
gathering of IRGC officials said in answer to a question regarding US threats
to attack Syria "The US will decide wisely, inshallah, and will not throw
itself into a military dumping ground. But if it makes a military move it will
face many problems. The IRGC will always do its duty.”
In his speech at the annual gathering, Jafari said that the
enemy has met failure in Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria, adding "This trend goes
in spite of the Islamic Revolution which still fares strongly ahead. The latest
defeat we are witnessing of the enemies is their defeat against the resistance
front in Syria.”
He added "The enemies had schemes for intervention and military
attack on Syria, but it has so far met failure and we hope that it will
continue to do.”
He pointed out "Great achievements are happening for the
revolution. The enemies believe that they will not be able to cope with Syria. It
being so, they won’t be able to cope with Iran either, which shows our defense
outside our geographical borders.”
"In the decade following the victory of the Islamic
Revolution the US resorted to vast military threats against Iran, trying to
control and change the course of the revolution. Today, more than 12 years have
past since that time. We see that the US has used all its power to camp around Iran
but has been unable to utter a threat against Iran.”
He pointed to recent statements by a CIA official and said "He
has admitted that the IRGC has been able in the past years to improve itself to
the level where it is capable of strategic coping with enemies like the US and Israel.”
