TEHRAN, YJC. Islamic Republic of Iran Army Navy Commander has said that the Navy’s 24th fleet has traveled through the Malacca strait.

Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari has said in a news conference on Monday that the northern Indian Ocean and Southeast Asia hold much significance for Islamic Republic of Iran commerce, adding "In the area between Bab el Mandeb and the Malacca Strait a large volume of trade goes on. Therefore maintaining security in the area is much important to the country’s economy.”

He added that the 24th fleet of the Army Navy, consisting of the Khark helicopter carrier and Sabalan destroyer, has set for Malacca Strait for maintaining security.

He also said that the fleet has passed by the Gulf of Aden and the Strait of Bab el Mandeb to head for the eastern Indian Ocean, passing by Sri Lanka and the Bay of Bengal to enter the Strait of Malacca.

He then added that the fleet will leave the Strait of Malacca the next day to head north to the Pacific Ocean.
