Tehran, YJC. Speakers of the Iranian Majlis and the Council of Representatives of Iraq have discussed Iraq’s plan to end the Syrian crisis.

In a joint press conference, the Speaker of the Majlis of Iran Ali Larijani and the Speaker of the Council of Representatives of Iraq Usama al-Nujayfi discussed the ways out of the Syrian crisis.

Larijani pointing to the Iraqi plan said "Mr. Jujayfi has a plan for the Syrian issue which was discussed in the bilateral meeting.”

Usama al-Nujayfi in turn said "We think that military force cannot solve the problem of Syria. The best way for that is the political one, where all sides are present and grounds are laid to establish democracy. Iran, Iraq, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia, in cooperation with countries like the US and Russia, can help Syria realize a democratic future.”

He also asserted "We believe that Western forces are after disarming Syria, not saving its nation.”

Providing comments on his country’s plan for the Syrian crisis, al-Nujayfi said "The initiative is offered by the parliament, government, and political forces of Iraq. Its first axis is a ceasefire in Syria. The second axis is for the political groups and foreign forces to back down. And the third axis is to set a schedule for holding democratic elections, whereby the winning individuals would be responsible for the affairs of Syria.”

"Of course that would require cooperation from regional countries. We have sent the initiative to the Arab League and Turkey, and discussed it with Mr. Larijani, the Speaker of the Majlis of Iran; and in the coming days the Iraqi plan for solving the Syrian issue will be sent to the Iranian party.”

The Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives has visited Tehran for talks about Syria. Also, the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey is to visit Tehran on September 22nd on similar grounds.
