Tehran, YJC. Haqiqatpour says that the inauguration of the Bushehr power plant on September 24 will serve as Iran’s tool to evaluate Russia’s commitment.
In interview
with Islamic Constitutive Assembly News Agency, Deputy Chairman of the National
Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Majlis Mansour Haqiqatpour
pointing out that in the near future Iran’s project for the construction of its
second nuclear power plant will start, said "September 24, the day the Bushehr
power plant will be delivered, will be the day to evaluate Russia’s commitment
to Iran.”
Providing
comments on statements by Russian officials to deliver the power plant on September
24, Haqiqatpour said "I hope that this time Russia enacts its claims and does
not shy away from its responsibilities like past times.”
He stated
that Russia’s punctuality will encourage Iran to cooperate with the country on
its future projects.
Pointing
out that since 2006 Russia has not enacted its responsibilities in inaugurating
the Bushehr power plant, he asserted "Their performance has lead to the Iranian
nation’s distrust in Russian officials. Under current circumstances and regional
developments, the country’s positive action will help build trust between the two
sides.”
He further
said that according to plans passed by the Majlis, Iran must produce 20
thousand MW nuclear electricity in the next 20 years and said "When the Bushehr
power plant is fully operational only 1 thousand MW electricity will be added
to the grid, so the country has a long way to fully implement the plan.”
He also
said that in the near future the second nuclear power plant will start
construction and added "In the current situations things are favorable for Iran
and Russia to cooperate on building the second nuclear power plant, because now
the unfavorable regard of doing so in the international scene has faded off and
Russia will be no more under pressure for further projects once it has finished
the Bushehr power plant.”
Yuri
Ushakov had recently said that his country will finish the first stage of the
Bushehr power plant delivery on September 24.
