TEHRAN, March 16 - A Russian An-12 plane laden with around nine tonnes of gold hit problems during take-off in Yakutsk on Thursday, scattering bars of precious metal on the runway.
TEHRAN,Young Journalists Club (YJC) - According to associate head of the local transport investigation department of the Russian Investigative committee Semyon Fedorov, the loading hatch broke down during take-off "because the cargo was incorrectly fixed."
The Nimbus Airlines cargo plane was reportedly en route to Krasnoyarsk when its loading hatch broke down, throwing some 200 gold bars across the runway. Following the incident, the plane safely landed at Magan airport near Yakutsk. No casualties have been reported. The Russian Investigative Committee has launched a probe into the incident.
