Tehran, YJC. Iran’s president has said that the US cannot provide satisfactory reasons to attack Syria.
Speaking before the members of the Assembly of Experts on Wednesday,
President Rouhani said "The fact that the US has asked the congressional rule
on its actions against Syria means that the country does not enjoy ample
international legitimacy from the UN and the Security Council as well as the
public opinion to perform such an act.”
"We believe that the major problem in Syria is the foreign
intervention as well as giving terrorists freedom in this country. The deciding
factor, though, must be the opinion and demand of the people,” Rouhani asserted.
He pointed out "The Islamic Republic has and will make all
its humanitarian effort for the people of Syria. Iran is bound to its
responsibility regarding regional stability and it has performed and will
perform every action necessary. Iran knows what problems are to follow a war
and attack on Syria, therefore it has done all its political and international
duties in the past few days and it will continue to do so.”
He also maintained "As it was said earlier, the Islamic
Republic of Iran considers any action against Syria not only to the detriment
of the region, but also to that of the friends of the US. Iran believes that
such an act will have no benefit for anyone.”
