TEHRAN, March 13 - The Iranian labor minister has secured a vote of confidence during a hearing session at the Parliament (Majlis) on his alleged mismanagement, as the legislature begins an impeachment process involving three cabinet ministers.
TEHRAN,Young Journalists Club (YJC) - The parliament held a hearing session on Tuesday to discuss the performance of Ali Rabiei, who faced charges of mismanaging unemployment and other government enterprises.
The session began with speeches by six of the protesting lawmakers, and continued with Rabiei’s address in his defense.
He said the parliament was only exercising its right by impeaching him, but asserted, “In the light of what I gave and what I received [during my incumbency], I performed well in the ministry.”
Rabiei managed to once again secure the Parliament’s confidence with 126 out 253 votes in favor, 123 against, and two abstentions.
The parliament will now proceed to impeach Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi in the afternoon session.
The plan for his impeachment was tendered to the legislature after an Iranian airliner crashed in central Iran during a flight from Tehran to the southwestern city of Yasuj last month, killing all 66 people on board.
The lawmakers are also set also to impeach Minister of Agriculture Mahmoud Hojjati in the coming days.
He is to be questioned regarding his performance in regulating the market for agricultural produce, addressing the problems facing the factories processing sugar cane, and his alleged recruitment of retired managers.
