TEHRAN, March 9 - Iran categorically protested to UK government following assault on its embassy in London.
TEHRAN,Young Journalists Club (YJC) - Shortly after the attack, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi notified British Ambassador to Tehran Nicholas Hopton of Iran’s protest to the issue and called for UK police to completely protect Iranian diplomats in the embassy, said Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi.
Araqchi has also called for UK police to take swift action against the assailants.
Hopton, for his part, expressed UK government’s official apology over the issue, saying riot police is present in the scene taking control of the situation, Qassemi said.
He said all efforts have been made to protect Iranian diplomats and prevent the assailants from entering into embassy building.
Supporters of a counter-revolutionary group have raided the Iranian embassy in London.
They were advocates of the so-called Shirazi cult. They brought down the Iranian flag, raised their group’s flag on the roof and chanted slogans against Iranian authorities.
