TEHRAN, February 26 - Iranian President Hassan Rouhani congratulated Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa over his election as new South African president.
TEHRAN,Young Journalists Club (YJC) - Rouhani in a message to Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa, expressed hope that bilateral ties between the two friendly countries would be expanded at bilateral and international levels.
Earlier in August, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and South African Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Nomaindiya Mfeketo in a meeting in Tehran underlined the need for expanding bilateral ties and mutual cooperation.
During the meeting in the Iranian capital today, Zarif and Mfeketo explored avenues for bolstering and reinvigorating mutual cooperation in different fields.
During the meeting, the Iranian foreign minister expressed the hope that the two countries will hold joint commission on mutual cooperation in the near future.
Mfeketo, for her part, underlined South Africa's determination to deepen its relations with Iran, and hoped for providing arrangements to facilitate South African president’s upcoming visit to Iran.
Cyril Ramaphosa was elected as South Africa’s president in a parliamentary vote and pledged to tackle endemic corruption after scandal-ridden Jacob Zuma resigned on orders from the ruling African National Congress.
