Tehran, YJC. The foreign ministers of Iran and Turkey have discussed the use of chemical weapons in Syria over telephone.
In a phone call to his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoğlu,
the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammadjavad
Zarif emphasized Iran’s decisive position in condemning the application of mass
destruction weapons.
Zarif asserted "If the news about the application of
chemical weapons is true, it no doubt has been done by terrorist and Takfiri
groups, because they have proved by deed that they make no bones committing all
sorts of crime.”
He also pointed to charges of using such weapons directed at
the Syrian government and said "How can the government do such a thing when the
UN inspectors are in Damascus and the government is fully in command in forcing
the terrorists back? This criminal act has been done by terrorist groups, because
their interests lie in aggravating and globalizing the Syrian crisis.”
He pointed to the Syrian government condemning the act and
asserted that the Islamic Republic of Iran is closely in contact with the Syrian
government in order to investigate the various aspects of the issue.
Ahmet Davutoğlu also expressed concern over the application
of chemical weapons in Syria and necessitated clarifications on the
truthfulness of the news.
Davutoğlu also called for the continuations of Iran-Turkey consultations
on the Syrian crisis.
