TEHRAN, February 8 - A senior Iranian official said the country supports Syrian territorial integrity, calling on Turkey to respect international borders.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - “The Islamic Republic of Iran supports Syrian territorial integrity and does not accept any aggression to Syrian soil,” Ali Akbar Velayati, senior advisor to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on international affairs said.
“We recommend Turkish friends to respect international borders,” he said, adding Syrian nation and their supporters including Hezbollah would drive Americans out of Syria.
He said the US is after division in Syria.
He noted that overwhelming Syrian Kurds abide by Syrian territorial integrity.
Turkey launched the so-called Operation Olive Branch in Syria’s northwestern city of Afrin on January 20 in a bid to eliminate the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), which Ankara views as a terror organization and the Syrian branch of the outlawed Kurdish Workers Party (PKK). Turkey has warned that the Afrin offensive could expand to the nearby Syrian city of Manbij.
