Tehran, YJC. Solana says that during the talks with Rouhani as head of Iranian negotiators, agreements were made which were ignored by Ahmadinejad as the next President.
In an interview with ISNA the former EU foreign policy
official Javier Solana said he knows Dr. Rouhani since 2000 and that they had managed
the talks very well and at that time, reaching an agreement which was not
accepted by the next president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Solana maintained that Rouhani is an intelligent,
enlightened person who can be talked to.
Solana also stated that the US is not the only way, Iran having
the option to negotiate with the EU.
He also believed that Iran and the US must establish a preliminary
corridor for relationships.
Solana then posed a question, asking why Iran continues to
enrich uranium more than it needs for use in energy, chemical, and medical
sections. He said that as Iran has the ability to develop things that the EU
does not like and on the other side the country itself has said to have no
intention of developing, there is no need for pursuing uranium enrichment
beyond what gratifies a number of needs already mentioned.
