Hashemi pointed to the favorable state of affairs between Iran and the EU during Solana’s office and said "We must not allow the atmosphere that existed between Iran and some countries in the 8 years to influence further activities, because a new era of foreign policy and interaction with the world has begun based on mutual respect and trust.”

The Chairman of the Expediency Discernment Council stated that clearly defining positions is important in the political arena, adding "The presence of foreign guests in the Rouhani inauguration is a starting point for faring on a new path and we must try to deepen trust.”

Hashemi stressed logical approach to all political issues as the human way out of problems and asserted "There is always the heavy shadow of threats and sanctions on the negotiations. We must progress toward eliminating bad feelings in a calm atmosphere and with feelings of complete composure.”

Solana also pointed to his acquaintance with Rouhani and the policies of Ayatollah Hashemi, hoping the West and Iran to improve relations.

He considered the election result as meaningful to the West and said "It is the Iranians’ right to reach their historical, civilizational, and cultural status in cooperation with the world.”
