Tehran, YJC. Iran has been recognized as the owner of the ‘persiangulf’ domain name.
Iran’s
representative in ICANN negotiations said that the company has agreed to assign
the domain name "persiangulf” to Iran.
"With
the support of Iran, the application for the registration of the ‘persiangulf’
internet domain which was proposed by a foreign company was approved of by
ICANN’s Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC) and Iran was recognized as the
spiritual owner of ‘persiangulf’ internet domain name,” Mehr reports.
Said
Mahdiyoun added "In line with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and
Numbers’ acceptance of high-level domain names, the registration of ‘.persiangulf’
was considered.”
"Menwhile
as a Turkish company had applied for the ‘persiangulf’ domain name, Emiratis
had started objections last year, demanding the domain not to be registered due
to oppositions by 6 countries of the Persian Gulf area,” Mahdiyoun further said.
He also
said that the objections were pursued by the 6 countries by requesting the GAC
not to consider registering the domain name, which were not accepted after Iran
defended its position by providing historical evidence.
Meanwhile
a Swahili website says that inside the Arab Persian-Gulf-area countries entities
have expressed disapproval of the registration of ‘persiangulf’ by their
states.
The
Turkish company AGIT had applied for the domain in May 2013.
