TEHRAN, January 8 - The Kadovar Island volcano in Papua New Guinea spewed smoke and ash, Sunday, after awakening for the first time in centuries. More than 500 people were evacuated as a result.

The volcano was thought to be dormant; the last-known eruption was recorded in the 17th century.
